The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended two constituency executives from Walewale in the North-East Region.
The suspension is due to allegations of gross misconduct.
The suspended officials and a party member have been instructed to hand over party materials while an investigation is underway.
The latest development was communicated in a letter to the affected individuals by Fuseini Nurudeen, the Regional Chairman of the party.
This action follows a recent High Court ruling in Tamale, which ordered a re-run of the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary.
The court essentially held that the election was marked with irregularities, impersonation, and, in some instances, over-voting.
In January 2024, Dr Kabiru Mahama, a special advisor to the vice president, narrowly defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, in a tightly contested primary.
The election saw Dr Kabiru winning with 345 votes against Hajia Lariba’s 338 votes.
Unsatisfied with the outcome, the incumbent member of parliament on 27 January 2024 headed to court to challenge the results, citing electoral irregularities and malpractice.
In response to the court ruling, the NPP General Secretary has announced the schedule for the re-run.
Nominations will open on September 3, 2024, and close on September 5.
The re-run election is set for September 8, 2024.
