Asantehene resolves suits against re-appointment of KNUST’s Vice Chancellor

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has intervened to address the lawsuits challenging the re-appointment of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson.

In a meeting held on Friday, 30th August 2024, the plaintiffs, Isaac Mensah, a stores superintendent in the university’s Procurement Department, and Clement Ohene Asare, an alumnus, both of whom had filed separate lawsuits at the Kumasi High Court against the Vice-Chancellor’s re-appointment, were appealed to by Otumfuo to drop and withdraw their cases from the court.

Prof Rita Akosua Dickson resumed her two-year tenure extension on the 1st of August, 2024. However, her tenure extension was being challenged legally as some individuals considered it unlawful.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer of KNUST, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe in Kumasi on Monday, he highlighted that the university is excited about the development and applauded the King for his intervention.

“The University is excited about the fact that the Otumfuo has stepped in and that brings us a lot of relief and peace so that we can continue to work in a very peaceful manner and project the positive strides that the university has chalked over the years.

“So we are grateful to the Otumfuo and all other stakeholders including the plaintiffs and their lawyers,” he stated.
