VAR to be introduced into Ghana Premier League soon – GFA boss

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has hinted that the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Ghana Premier League will soon become a reality.

He made this known during the GFA 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence on Tuesday at Prampram.

The introduction of VAR in global football has helped in minimizing mistakes by match officials.

Speaking at Congress, Mr Okraku assured that their meeting with FIFA with regards to the introduction of VAR in the Ghanaian topflight has gone well and it will soon become a reality.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken steps towards the introduction of VAR, especially at the Ghana Premier League level.

“Meeting with FIFA on this plan has gone well and we look forward to this becoming a reality soon.

“This investment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirms our desire to continuously invest towards the improvement of not only the league but also refereeing in general,” he added.

The first time the country football experienced the use of VAR was the game between Ghana and Nigeria during the 2022 World Cup playoffs at the Baba Yara Stadium.
