Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, is seemingly calling for individuals connected to the Sports Ministry to be investigated over allegations of gross financial mismanagement and corruption.
Afriyie Ankrah said this in an interview with ChannelOne TV on the sidelines of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto launch for Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Winneba.
The former Sports Minister’s comments come in the wake of multiple negative fallouts from Ghana’s participation in international competitions like the 2023 AFCON and hosting the 2023 African Games with the latest being a purported $3.6 million payment to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to cover the African Games.
Using the intense level of scrutiny he was subjected to in the wake of Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil as a backdrop, Afriyie Ankrah was shocked the present administrators at the Sports Ministry haven’t been investigated yet.
“These people, they went to where AFCON, all the mess. Why is it that they have not been investigated? President (John) Mahama investigated me. [I was his campaign manager] Live everybody saw it. Of course they should be investigated.”
