Despite criticisms about failed promises, the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has allotted high marks for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on achievements in the last seven years.

According to him, the majority of the promises outlined in the 2016 and 2020 manifestos have been fulfilled.

Speaking during a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, highlighting a significant achievement in the face of challenges.

“I think that we have a very pretty record in terms of honouring our promises. We’ve done some work to look at our 2016 manifesto and what proportion of those manifestos we’ve honoured, and 83 percent have been honoured. And when you look at the 2020 manifesto, even in the midst of all these crises, we are fulfilling or we’ve fulfilled 80 percent of our 2020 promises in our manifesto,” Dr. Bawumia said.

In contrast, Dr. Bawumia criticized the record of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the period that they were in government.

Dr. Bawumia claimed former President Mahama only fulfilled 28% of his 2012 manifesto commitments.

“My opponent, in his 2012 manifesto when he became the president, he only fulfilled 28 percent of his 2012 manifesto. He didn’t fulfil 203 of the 280 promises. So, I think we have a better record as far as fulfilling promises,” Dr. Bawumia said, emphasizing the NPP’s stronger track record.

Former President Mahama goes head-to-head with Dr. Bawumia, with the former staging a strong comeback after eight years in opposition while the latter aims to extend the NPP’s grip on power.

The fate of the two leaders will be decided at the December 7 polls.
