1 dead, 2 injured in horrific accident at Samreboi

A devastating accident has claimed the life of a 26-year-old illegal miner (galamseyer) in Samreboi in the Western Region.

A couple was also injured in the accident which occurred today (August 22) opposite a Roman Catholic Church in the town.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, Osman Iddrisu, went to purchase diesel for equipment at his illegal mining (galamsey) site when his motorcycle collided with another carrying a man and his sick wife en route to the Samartex Hospital.

In a tragic turn of events, a truck carrying sand ran over the motorbikes immediately after the collision, resulting in Osman’s death on the spot.

Confirming the incident, a family member of the deceased stated that they received the message of Osman’s passing early in the day.

Working promptly with the information they received, they headed to the scene, where the police were already investigating the incident.

Subsequently, they had to wait for the police to hand over the body to the family.

The deceased has since been buried according to Islamic tradition, while the man and his wife are receiving treatment at the Samartex Hospital.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community.

An investigation into the accident is currently underway.
