A devastating car fire occurred in Labone yesterday when a moving vehicle with registration number GM 708-21 crashed into an electricity pole after the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
According to the driver, he was tired and dozed off behind the wheel.
“I was driving and suddenly I dozed off,” he recounted.
“I regained consciousness and saw that the car had crashed into a pole. I tried to drive away but realized the car was on fire”.
According to the driver, he quickly alerted the Ghana Fire Service National Headquarters, but their delayed response allowed the fire to spread.
“We received the distress call, but unfortunately, our team couldn’t reach the scene promptly,” said a fire service spokesperson.
“However, our personnel managed to extinguish the flames, although the vehicle was badly damaged.”
Despite their efforts, the car was reduced to ashes by the time the fire was brought under control.
An eyewitness explained, “The driver’s lapse in attention was the cause of the accident and subsequent fire.”
He further urged all drivers to be careful on the road to avoid such occurrences.
