The two persons who illegally entered the premises of Lilian Kumah, the widow of former deputy Minister of Finance John Kumah, to steal have been granted bail.
The duo, Adams Sanogo, a trader, and Rabiu Falilu, a Senior High School leaver, hauled before the Accra Circuit Court was granted a GH¢200,000 bail.
They are to provide two sureties each, who must reside within the jurisdiction, and one must be a public or civil servant who earns GH¢3,000 a month.
Sanogo is alleged to have stolen money, electrical gadgets, and other items from Lilian Kumah.
Falilu, on the other hand, is said to have dishonestly received some of the stolen items.
They both pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge.
According to the prosecution, Sanogo and Kwame Dunga, who is at large, allegedly conspired to steal US$50,000, GH¢50,000, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max mobile phone valued at GH¢15,000 from Madam Kumah.
The accused persons also made away with Madam Kumah’s Apple iPad worth GH₵15,000, a Samsung Z fold phone valued at GH¢12,000, a Microsoft laptop costing GH₵7,000, a black school bag valued at GH¢400, and an Apple watch.
The facts of the case suggest that on December 29, 2023, an unknown person, gained access to the home of Mrs Kumah and stole her personal belongings.
A formal complaint was made at the police station after a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) video footage captured the perpetrators.
In July this year, a police investigation led to the arrest of Falilu, who had in his possession the complainant’s iPhone 15 Pro Max mobile at Jamasi in the Ashanti region.
The prosecution said after Falilu’s arrest, he led the police to Adum PZ, Kumasi, where Sanogo was also arrested.
During interrogation, Sanogo admitted to selling the phone to Falilu.
He further mentioned Dunga, another mobile phone dealer at Adum PZ, who is currently at large as his accomplice.
The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2024, for continuation.
Meanwhile, the police are on a manhunt for Dunga, Sanogo’s accomplice.
