The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched an investigation into a troubling incident at Kumasi Academy, where a female student was physically assaulted by her colleagues.
This comes a day after the Ghana Police Service assured the public that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage came to the limelight on Monday, August 12, 2024, and has since raised concerns about student discipline and safety.
According to the Municipal Director of Education, Sampson Anawuni, the GES has set up a committee to investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
Mr Anawuni described the incident as an abuse of a girl-child and emphasized the need for swift action to address the issue.
The incident occurred when a group of students accused the female student of engaging in a sexual act and physically manhandled her across the school compound.

Meanwhile, the GES has assured that it will take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Assault on students has become rampant in most public schools.
Similarly, the family of a 19-year-old student of St. Andrew Senior High School (SHS) in Sefwi Asawinso, Western North Region, is seeking justice following an alleged assault by two teachers.
An uncle of the victim, who spoke on behalf of the family, said the teachers beat him up while he was on his way to get food.
He said the assault left multiple welts on his back and other parts of his body.
“The child went to classes this morning, and after the classes, he wanted to get something to eat. He met his teacher who said his hair was bushy. His teacher, just held him by his uniform and used the cane on him. I saw the child and asked if he provoked him(teacher) but he said no.
“The child is a very humble child. He cooks for his father. They operate a chop bar in the village. He is not known to be somebody who is abusive. It’s serious. The child did not provoke them. It’s about the hair,” the uncle said.
He added that the final-year student was rushed to the SDA Clinic at Sefwi Asawinso by his classmates due to the nature of his injuries.
The 19-year-old has since been treated and discharged.
