A Ho Magistrate Court has remanded two cousins, Abubakar Munkaila, and Abdul Kadir, in prison custody for allegedly beating up their roommate, Marwan Alhassan, to death.
Abubakar Munkaila is a 23-year-old student and the first accused, while Abdul Kadir, is a 22-year-old driver and second accused.
The incident occurred on August 5 at about 10 p.m. at Ho Sabong Zongo, where the cousins accused Marwan of stealing their money.
According to the prosecution, later in the day when the first accused spotted Marwan near a pub close to the Zongo, he pounced on him and subjected him to severe beatings in a bid to get him to confess.
At the pub, the first accused informed the second of what had happened.
Soon after, the first accused was informed on the phone that Marwan was fleeing from the town with his belongings.
Subsequently, the two went after him, caught up with him and beat him to a pulp.
They left him unconscious, while he bled profusely from his mouth and nostrils, the prosecution added.
Marwan was rushed to the Ho Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The hospital alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons the next day.
The cousins admitted to beating Marwan in their caution statements and were charged with murder.
The court, presided over by Albert Annor Owusu, has remanded them in prison custody until October 15.
The body of the deceased has since been buried per Islamic customs.
