Foreign Ministry refutes Mahama’s claims of strained Ghana-Burkina Faso relations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has refuted claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is responsible for Ghana’s strained ties with Burkina Faso.

The claims, made by former President John Mahama, suggested that President Akufo-Addo’s actions have led to “diplomatic tension” between the two countries.

In a press statement issued on August 10, the Ministry labeled Mr. Mahama’s accusations as “wholly unfounded” and unsupported by any substantial evidence.

“The ministry respectfully refutes the allegations made by the former President regarding the purported strained relations between our country and the Republic of Burkina Faso. Such claims of diplomatic tension are wholly unfounded and lack any substantial evidence or merit.”

The ministry added that the leadership of President Akufo-Addo has been dedicated to advancing diplomacy in a manner that upholds the values of diplomacy and promotes peaceful engagement on the global stage.

“It is crucial to emphasise that Ghana is committed to maintaining diplomatic relationships with Burkina Faso. Our interactions with Burkina Faso are guided by the principles of mutual respect and cooperation.

“The ministry therefore called for a focus on building bridges and strengthening ties with our neighbour rather than spreading falsehood that only serves to undermine the spirit of international cooperation,” it further noted.
