Video of me pounding fufu was just familiarity, not to attract votes – Baba Sadiq
Entertainment entrepreneur and politician, Baba Sadiq, has responded to a backlash from netizens after a photo of him pounding fufu during a door-to-door campaign in July went viral on social media.
The incident, which occurred during his campaign for the parliamentary seat in Okaikoi Central in the Greater Accra Region, sparked a social media buzz.
In an interview on Hitz FM on August 7, 2024, Baba Sadiq clarified that his actions were motivated by a desire to connect with the community and not for votes.
“Sometimes, when you go from house to house, you meet them. It’s just familiarity. You go to their house, you see her pounding, and you decide to help her. It wasn’t to attract anything” he stated.
Sadiq acknowledged that, his photographers uploaded the photos on social media thus remains unfazed by the negative comments it received.
“It was funny. When you’re a politician and you know the realities, some of these comments don’t get to you. You just laugh about it and move on,” he said.
Ultimately, Sadiq said the feedback from the woman, her household, and other constituents was what truly mattered to him.
