Four suspects, comprising three Ghanaians and a Chinese national, have been arrested by the police for adjusting Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) meters.
The suspects, Wisdom Sewlorm, Ernest Afatsawu, Rulian Shan, and Ali Yakubu, were arrested for their roles in fidgeting with the meters and selling them to a Chinese plastic manufacturing firm for GH₵1200.
According to the director responsible for investigation, prosecution, and security, Paul Abariga, the four individuals will be taken to court after investigations are complete.
Further checks revealed that the meters were tampered with before installation, and were being used for industrial purposes instead of residential use.
The police hope to complete their investigation and present the suspects in court tomorrow, Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
The ECG has reiterated its commitment to combating meter tampering and protecting its assets.
