The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Ghana are calling for alternative fuel sources to power their plants during the shutdown of the Ghana National Gas Limited Company’s Gas Processing Plant and offshore gas export facilities.

The shutdown, announced by Ghana Gas, is for critical safety and essential maintenance works aimed at enhancing the plant’s operational efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted gas supply in the future.

Dr Elikplim Apetorgbor, CEO of the Independent Power Producers, Ghana, expressed concerns about the impact on production due to the unavailability of fuel during this period.

He emphasized the need for the government and sector managers to “make available an alternative fuel supply and also this fuel that will be made available should be optimized for proper output.”

Dr Apetorgbor acknowledged that while maintenance is essential, he stressed the importance of sector managers engaging in proper planning and coordination to minimize the negative impact on electricity supply during the maintenance period.
