Ambulance case: Accept defeat or face further disgrace – Haruna Iddrisu to A-G
Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has admonished the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, not to appeal the Court of Appeal’s latest judgment on the ambulance case.
Mr Iddrisu has urged Mr Dame to accept the verdict in good faith.
“I hear the Attorney General even instead of swallowing his humble pride, is saying that he wants to litigate on this matter.
“Mr Speaker, we assure him that he will be further disgraced, because, this matter, if you want to try people, try them on matters which are legally meritorious,” he said while celebrating the Minority Leader’s victory in Parliament.
On Tuesday, July 30, the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa.
The duo, Dr Ato Forson and Mr Jakpa have been accused of causing the state a €2.3 million loss in an ongoing ambulance trial.
The accused persons were to answer five counts of wilfully causing financial loss to the state, abetment to wilfully causing financial loss to the state, contravention of the Public Procurement Act, and intentionally misapplying public property.
However, the Court of Appeal overturned a previous order from the high court, which required the accused persons to open their defence and thus their acquittal.
The Attorney General has since vowed to appeal the decision to acquit and discharge the two.
He considers the decision of the Court of Appeal to be perverse in the quest for public accountability and the rule of law.
