The Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral has made an economic case for the controversial construction of the edifice for God.

“as much as we’re building it to the glory of God, it will amaze you to know that when we open up the model, the economic benefits the nation will get far outweighs all the sports stadiums in Ghana put together” Secretary of the Board, Reverend Kusi Boateng said in a JoyNews interview monitored by theghanareport.com.

The construction of the cathedral has evoked passionate criticisms and defence for the project expected to be completed by 2025.

Some have argued that the project fails the priority test but Reverend Boateng disagrees. He says the facility will ultimately address the issue of unemployment.

Rev. Kusi Boateng also stated that the interdenominational cathedral will eradicate poverty.

“I think people don’t understand that the building of the national cathedral is going to solve the problems of jobs, the problems of hunger and the problems of hardship” he stressed.

Secretary to the Board of Trustees believes the project must be recognized as a national project and separated from partisan politics.

He however revealed plans are underway to meet all political parties to discuss issues surrounding the cathedral and also seek their blessings for the projects.

According to Reverend Boateng, two former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Dramani Mahama have all backed the construction of the Cathedral.
