The Minority in Parliament has changed the date for its second protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison, and his deputies.
The protest which was initially scheduled for July 30, 2024, has been moved to August 13, 2024.
In a letter dated Tuesday, July 23, and addressed to the police, the Minority said this has been necessitated by the launch of the 2024 campaign of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on July 27, in Tamale,
It said many members of the Minority will be required to attend the campaign launch and therefore, will not have ample time to prepare for the protest.
“Following our discussion and conclusion of the date with your office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the 27th of July 2024 as the date of the launch of our national campaign in Tamale. Given that this date is so close to our planned demonstration in Accra, the 27th July date has become inconvenient.
“Pursuant to sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), I hereby write to request for the rescheduling of the demonstration from its original date of Tuesday 30th July 2024 to Tuesday 13th August 2024, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. The route remains the same,” the Minority said.

The NDC MPs argue that the BoG Governor supervised significant mismanagement at the central bank and should be replaced with a more competent individual.
This follows an earlier protest on October 3, 2023, where the caucus called for the Governor’s and his deputies’ resignation after the bank recorded a GH¢60.81 billion loss in the 2022 fiscal year and allocated over $250 million for constructing a new headquarters.
The protesters intended to present a petition to the Governor during the initial protest, which started at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and proceeded through Adabraka, Ridge Roundabout, and the High Court Complex Traffic Light before ending at Independence Square.
However, the Governor did not meet them personally.
Instead, he sent his head of security.
This perceived lack of response led the Minority Caucus to plan a new protest date, which took nearly a year to finalise.
