Jonathan Sowah wins Libyan Premier League title with Al-Nasr Benghazi

Ghanaian forward Jonathan Sowah’s Al Nasr Benghazi have clinched the Libyan Premier League with a game in hand to add to their three other domestic titles.

The side sealed the trophy following a 2-1 win over Al-Madina yesterday.

The former Medeama man played a pivotal role in Al-Nasr’s league triumph, scoring seven goals in nine matches to help the club go unbeaten in the Championship round.

Sowah was also an important part of the Medeama side who won the Ghana Premier League in the 22/23 season, scoring 12 goals to top the club’s scoring charts and leading them to a first league title in 46 years.

His exploits for the Mauve and Yellow earned him a call-up to Chris Hughton’s 2023 African Cup of Nations squad in January, though he didn’t make a single appearance in a disappointing AFCON for the Black Stars.

After an underwhelming international campaign, Sowah pursued a new challenge in a move abroad to Al-Nasr in Libya and has already cemented himself as an integral part of the team after just 6 months.

The league trophy will be presented to Al-Nasr, who will represent Libya in the CAF Champions League next season, after the final game of the season at home against Al Hilal Benghazi on Monday.

Sowah is no stranger to the Champions League and netted 3 goals in 7 games in the competition for Medeama before his move away.
