The Electoral Commission (EC) will take centre stage in Parliament today Friday, July 19 as it provides a crucial update on preparations for the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
In response to a request from Members of Parliament(MPs) seeking clarity on the Electoral Commission’s (EC) preparedness for the upcoming polls, a crucial meeting is set to unfold in the parliamentary chamber.
MPs have shown a keen interest in understanding the EC’s readiness, prompting this engagement.
The briefing aims to delve into various facets of the EC’s preparations, encompassing logistical arrangements, voter registration updates, and measures to ensure a credible electoral process.
During proceedings on Thursday, July 18, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, underscored the significance of this session. He emphasized its role in providing reassurance to both Parliament and the public regarding the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process.
“We will be meeting the Electoral Commission, they are going to be here at our instance, we have invited them to come and brief us on the preparations they have made so far towards the 2024 elections.”
“If you have any issue relating to the EC, just come and ask, it’s not going to be a banter, we’re going to respectfully enquire about what they are doing. So, let’s prepare and come and meet them,” he said.
On Thursday, May 30, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced that the procedures for transferring votes, applying for proxy voting, and replacing lost or damaged voter ID cards.
The period for transfers and proxy applications lasted until June 14.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 28, the EC informed all voters wishing to replace their missing Voter ID Cards to make a payment for the replacement using the shortcode 2221067#.
The EC noted that individuals who have recently registered are not eligible to transfer their votes or apply for proxy voting, as per Clause 91.
For those seeking to replace their voter ID cards, a fee of GH₵10 is required.
