The police have arrested thirteen suspects for allegedly filling and illegally developing parts of the Laboma and Teshie Military Shooting Range within the Kpeshie Lagoon area in the La Dade-Kotopon municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

They were arrested after a team led by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) visited the location today, July 15.

An inspection of the area revealed that significant portions of the Kpeshie Lagoon had been filled for development, with structures at various stages of construction.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman of the Greater Accra REGSEC, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, assured that authorities would demolish unlawfully erected structures in the area in the coming days.

“They were picked up because we wanted to get the right people who own these structures. Some are ordinary workers; when you ask them, they will tell you that they were sent here to work.

“So, as we have picked them, they are in the hands of the police, and they will go through the process, and whoever asked them to come and work should be able to produce them. When they do, they will be given bail, and the law will take its course.

Some buildings were close to the Kpeshie Lagoon without recourse to safety and warnings.

“This one is closer to the Kpeshie; we will pull it down. There is another on your left, and they are building at the edge of the Kpeshie, and we will pull that one down too. At the far end, close to the shooting range, it will also be pulled down.

“We invite everybody to come, and we want to know who sold the land to the people. Because my traditional leaders are telling me they have not sold the land to anybody,” the Greater Accra Regional Minister noted.
