The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has pledged to expose individuals who unlawfully declare themselves as chiefs.

During a visit by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, the acting President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Professor Nii Oboade Notse Odaifio Welentsi III, expressed worry over the growing issue of divisional chiefs and priests creating new stools and accepting oaths of allegiance from unauthorised individuals, leading to chaos in the region.

According to him, the House of Chiefs would take the necessary measures to curb the rise of illegitimate chieftains in the region.

Again, he assured that the House would restore order and uphold the integrity of traditional leadership in Greater Accra by cracking down on those who disrupted the established system.

“As a house and fathers of the land, we have encountered a situation where some individual chiefs arrogate onto themselves some powers that they do not have authority over.

“For example, some divisional chiefs, priests, etc. go to the extent of creating new stools and taking oaths of allegiance from some ignorant people who call themselves chiefs, and these practices ought to be stopped forthwith.”

“The most common and annoying act of such people is that some even go to the extent of stampeding paramount chiefs from ascending onto their thrones in the name of being an acting president.”

“These acts have gone unchecked for a while, but trust me, these acts of lawlessness will be rooted out by the Regional House of Chiefs,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC) has called on the government to take immediate steps to halt the destruction of the historical Dodowa Forest by real estate developers.

Prof. Nii Oboade Notse Odaifio Welentsi III, who made the call, stressed the need for a full-scale investigation into the activities of the faceless encroachers.

He added that the Dodowa Forest was an important biodiversity resource of historical significance and must not be pillaged by “unscrupulous elements”.

“The Ga-Dangme has already contributed enough land to the development of this country and cannot lose our historical forest to self-seeking elements,” he stressed.

Prof. Nii Welentsi made the call during an emergency meeting between the GARHC and the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) at the Guggisberg Memorial Hall in Dodowa.
