The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called for the immediate apology and resignation of the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), over the statements he made about Dr Kwame Nkrumah during his outdoor ceremony at the Kumasi Jubilee Park.

In a press statement signed by the chairperson of the independent committee of the CPP, Patrick Nelson Sorgbodjor, the party indicated that the comment made by NAPO about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was reprehensible and abhorring to publish anywhere.

The party also condemned the comparison of the achievements of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah to President Akufo-Addo.

The statement further stated that if Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh fails to retract the statement he made, apologise and resign from all governmental and political positions, President Nana Akufo-Addo must withdraw him from his office as the Minister for Energy.

The CPP also called on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to withdraw him as his vice presidential candidate if he fails to resign.

”   …the party calls on His Excellency President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to withdraw the Hon. Minister from his position as Minister of Energy and also calls on His Excellency Vice President Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia to withdraw him as his vice presidential candidate for the sake of the country’s image, and its long term political and economic fortunes,” the CPP said.

“Ghanaians and Nkrumaists worldwide will have no choice but to hit the street to register their displeasure if the above or similar measures are not immediately enforced within 24 hours,” the statement added.
