The assemblyman for Abeposo Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem Municipality, Emmanuel Opoku, has allegedly stabbed one of his constituents.

According to the victim, Idrisu Ibrahim, the assemblyman stabbed him after he confronted some individuals who attacked his brother.

Ibrahim said a brother of the assemblyman and another young man in the community allegedly beat up his (Ibrahim’s) brother.

Ibrahim said since one of the attackers was his friend, he decided to go and inquire about the motive behind the attack on his relative.

However, he said he was allegedly assaulted by one Kwesi Mintah when he got to the vicinity.

In self-defence, Ibrahim said he fought back with the same cutlass Kwesi Mintah slashed him with.

He said this prompted Mintah’s people to come after him while he tried running for his life.

Unfortunately, he fell, and the assemblyman stabbed him in the ribs with the cutlass while the others beat him up mercilessly.

He managed to seek refuge in a nearby shop, where the owners rushed him to the health centre.

Meanwhile, the Konongo Divisional Police have reportedly arrested the assemblyman.

This comes after police arrested an assemblyman and five others at Achonwa in the Ahanta West Municipality for allegedly burning a 60-year-old man to death.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a mob responded to allegations by a local fetish priest from the Achonwa community.

According to reports, the fetish priest informed elders in the community that Isaac Ansah had presented the names of 14 individuals from the community to him to kill them for sacrifice.

Before the incident, Ansah had been serving over two years ban from the community for a previous allegation of causing the death of a resident through spiritual means.

Frank Eshun, the nephew of the late Ansah, who narrated the incident, said the mob violence which led to his uncle’s death occurred hours after a meeting between Ansah and town elders, which ended without a resolution.

This prompted anger among residents, who burnt him to death.
