A critically ill man has died in front of the University of Development Studies (UDS) Tamale Campus after allegedly being denied treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Ibrahim was found critically ill by some UDS students on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Information gathered indicates that Ibrahim had travelled from Kumasi to Tamale with his brother for the treatment of a severe spinal problem that had left him paralyzed.

Upon arrival in Tamale, Ibrahim’s brother reportedly informed him that he needed to withdraw money and promised to return promptly.

Unfortunately, the brother did not return until much later, when the students found Ibrahim.

The students quickly alerted the campus police unit, who contacted the National Ambulance Service.

When the ambulance arrived, they attempted to coordinate treatment for Ibrahim at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

However, the hospital allegedly refused to admit Ibrahim, citing a lack of identification documents.

Tragically, Ibrahim passed away a few minutes later in the presence of the police and the ambulance team.

The police have since deposited his body at the mortuary, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding his abandonment and the hospital’s response are expected to follow.

This incident comes after the death of a seriously sick woman believed to be in her late 60s who was allegedly dumped at a bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region.

She reportedly passed on Thursday morning (June 13, 2024), and her body was conveyed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital morgue.

The frail and immobile old woman was dumped with her wheelchair on Tuesday, June 11, 2023, at around 8:30 pm.

Both legs of the woman were in a Plaster of Paris (POP) cast as she remained motionless.

According to a police source, the victim was on admission and receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma Hospital after being involved in an accident.

However, the hospital discharged the patient and allegedly dumped her in a bush after failing to identify her family members.

The residents indicated that even though they could not see the inscription on the ambulance due to bad visibility, they suspect the vehicle came from a health facility in Winneba.
