Two persons have been arrested for robbing some Chinese nationals and their Ghanaian counterparts near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
On April 29, 2024, four armed men attacked two Chinese men and two Ghanaians when they were returning from Benenebeng forest.
According to a police report, the suspect robbed them of two iPhones and an amount of GHC7000.
They also forced them to transfer an amount of GHC30,000 to an MTN Mobile Money number before fleeing the scene.
The police, upon receiving a complaint about the incident, found out that the MTN number bore the name Esther Opoku.
They tracked Esther Opoku for weeks and arrested her on June 15, 2024, at Obuasi.
Upon her arrest, she told the police that her ex-boyfriend, Peter Boadi, sent the money to her Mobile Money account.
She said her boyfriend and three others later came, and she withdrew the money for them.
After the withdrawal, they gifted her GHC7000.
The police followed that lead and arrested Eric Danso, 21 and Daniel Kwaku Owusu, 35, at their hideouts at Fiankoma and Konongo Patreansa, respectively.
The two later admitted to their involvement in the robbery.
Daniel said he got GHC10,000, while Eric also admitted getting GHC7,000 of the booty.
Meanwhile, Peter Boadi, who is believed to be the leader of the gang and another are still at large.
On April 16, 2024, a gang of robbers attacked a group of UENR students near Boffourkrom in the Sunyani West Municipality when they were returning from a field trip to the Bui Power Authority.
The robbers also shot and killed one of the students, identified as Abdul Aziz Issah, while six others sustained minor injuries in the process.
The police arrested one suspect right after the robbery attack.
