A self-acclaimed chief and businessman has been jailed for 15 months for his involvement in a fraudulent land transaction.

The convict, Nii Kotey Susubiribi, also known as Nii Isaac or Kotey Nii Quaye, was hauled before the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah.

Susubiribi, who claims to be the chief of Abehenase near Amasaman, was found guilty of charges related to the threat of death and fraudulent dealings.

The facts before the court indicate that the first complainant, Alfred Abosu, a businessman from Achimota, and the second complainant, Freeman Kofi Owusu, a businessman from New Achimota, had both been affected by Susubiribi’s fraudulent activities.

In 2003, Abosu acquired 1.869 acres of land at Abehenease from the Amah Asor Family, lawfully represented at the time by Susubiribi’s late senior brother, Kotey Nii Kwei.

Abosu subsequently obtained a Land Title Certificate (No. GA 22047) in December 2005 for the land and constructed two single rooms, which he entrusted to his caretaker, Korsi Tondey.

Abosu faced no issues until February 21, 2015, when Susubiribi began interfering with the land, claiming ownership.

In March 2015, Susubiribi and his associates repeatedly threatened Tondey, forcing him to abandon the property.

Subsequently, Susubiribi fraudulently sold a portion of the land to Freeman Kofi Owusu for GH¢42,000.

A search by the Land Registration Division of the Land Commission in Accra confirmed Abosu’s legitimate title to the land.
