Unknown persons have attacked Shaibu Nyande Konde, the constituency assistant secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Krachi Nchumuru, in the Oti Region.
The victim was assaulted while returning from Zongo-Macheri, a nearby farming community.
The attackers reportedly blocked the main road at Kakraka, severely beating Mr Konde and damaging his vehicle.
He was taken to a clinic in Chinderi under police escort and is currently receiving treatment.
Mr Isaac Njona Fanyan, the Constituency Communication Officer, confirmed the unfortunate incident to state-owned GNA.
The NPP leadership has since filed a complaint with the Krachi Nchumuru District Police to apprehend the assailants.
Mr James Mamudu, the NPP Parliamentary candidate, explained that his team was transporting voters to the district head office of the Electoral Commission (EC) for vote transfers when they were stopped and beaten by the unknown assailants.
He accused the NDC MP of raising the alarm over alleged voter bussing from the Kpandai constituency in the Northern Region, leading to the attack.
In response, the NDC MP, Solomon Kuyon, claimed that a vehicle organized by the NPP candidate was carrying voters from various communities to Chinderi, prompting the NDC to block the road and return them to the Northern Region.
Meanwhile, the police have commenced investigations into the matter.
