A fire outbreak has gutted a five-bedroom house at Akrobi near Wenchi in the Bono Region.

The inferno destroyed properties and money worth thousands of Ghana cedis on Saturday.

According to the occupants of the house, their belongings, such as refrigerators, mattresses, television sets, clothes, furniture and motorbikes, were razed to the ground.

One of the victims, Desmond Ngmenasong, said he was at work when a distress call came through that their house was on fire.

“I rushed to the house after receiving the call, and I saw that the fire had destroyed everything.  I sell meat, so I stocked my two refrigerators full of pork, but everything is gone.

“Even my clothes, TV sets, mattress and a sum of GH¢ 4,500 are all gone, and I don’t know where to start from,” he lamented.

Another victim, while weeping, said a sum of GH¢ 15,000 she earned from her herbal medicine business was burnt in the flames.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have launched an investigation into the incident.

This comes after a fire outbreak destroyed several wooden structures along the railway line near the Odaw drain at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The blaze, which started around 5:30 pm on Wednesday, ravaged the entire area located under a GRIDCo high-voltage transmission line.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the distress call, working tirelessly to douse the flames while victims watched helplessly.

Despite the destruction of some wooden structures and containers, many other structures and high-tension poles were salvaged, ensuring the safeguarding of the electrical power supply.

The GNFS’s Public Relations Officer, ADO Alex King Nartey, suggested that illegal electrical connections could have caused the fire.
