A yet-to-be-identified Ghanaian businessman has died in his hotel room in Seoul while attending an event related to the Korea-Africa Summit.

According to the South Korean Police, the man, believed to be in his 50s, was found dead on Tuesday, June 5, 2024.

They added that he is a company official who travelled to Seoul for a business counselling event held on the sidelines of the Summit.

The Yonhap News Agency reported that the police found no signs of foul play and suspected that he could have died of illness.

The 2024 Korea–Africa Business Summit is a grand-scale economic event at which major government officials, business leaders, and economic experts meet to discuss agendas such as industrial development, trade expansion, strengthening food and mineral security, and responses to climate change.

The event kicked off on Tuesday.

This comes after a Switzerland-based Ghanaian, identified as Mr Andrew, was found dead in his room at Two Streams, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

According to the residents, Mr Andrew, who is suspected to be in his mid-60s, returned to Ghana about six months ago.

They mentioned that he was quite popular in the area due to his rapport with the youth.

Some residents told reporters that just a few days before his death, he had informed them that he was going to return to his family in Switzerland the following weekend.

They reported that a relative had sent Mr Andrew’s belongings to his extended family in the Central region a few days earlier.

He was, however, discovered hanging dead from a rope tied to the door frame of his rented room with his legs touching the ground.

They added that the body was found neatly dressed in a suit and shoes, with glasses adorning his face.
