A 27-year-old security man has been found dead in the River Ochi at Mankessin in the Central Region.
The deceased, Akwesi Appiah-Adjei, went to the river to swim after offloading some items from a car to the supermarket, where he worked but unfortunately drowned.
Eyewitnesses at the scene rushed to the house and reported the incident, but nobody attempted to search for him.
Some mechanics who were informed later went to the riverside to rescue him but did not see any sign of Akwesi Appiah-Adjei; hence, they returned home.
On Saturday, June 1, 2024, a woman who was going to fetch water found the body floating on the river, so she quickly rushed home and informed the community members.
The Mankessim Police were quickly informed and, with the support of the residents, retrieved the body.
Due to the decomposing nature of the body, police and family members agreed and buried the deceased right away.
The two victims are all males.
One has been identified as Mohammed Muftawu, a father of six in his 40s.
The Assembly Member for the area, Klu Wisdom Agbeko, stated that the fishermen, Kodzotsey Korbla Wemegah, 54, and Dzevenu Korshie Galley, 60, went fishing on Friday, May 24, 2024, and were expected to return early the next day.
However, they failed to return as usual, prompting a search for them.
They were subsequently found dead in the lagoon on Saturday, May 25.
The boy went to the river with his 12-year-old elder brother and friends to swim on Sunday afternoon but did not return.
However, on Monday, May 20, 2024, a relative by the name of Moses Akpe said they received a distress call about a body floating in the river the next day.
