A third victim has succumbed to injuries sustained in a premix fuel explosion at Ngyiresia, a community in the Essikado-Ketan constituency.
This brings the number of fatalities to three.
Gabriel Ato Mensah, the Assembly Member for Ngyiresia-Mpasem, confirmed the sad news.
He reported that 55-year-old Isaac Blankson passed away while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, May 21.
It will be recalled that the explosion occurred around 4 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as fishermen were transporting premix fuel in gallons to their canoes along the beach.
Due to the lack of an access route from the main road to the beach, fishermen usually roll barrels of fuel on the ground to the beach. This method led to the explosion during transport.
The explosion also caused significant damage, destroying two vehicles and several nearby wooden structures.
Meanwhile, five of the injured victims have been discharged, while others continue to receive treatment.
The community remains in shock as police investigate the cause of the incident.
