A 12-year-old boy who was reported missing following the torrential rains in Accra has been found dead.
The remains of the young boy were found in the Korle Lagoon two days after the rainstorm caused gridlock and flooded parts of the city.
According to a police report, the boy attempted to jump across a gutter but slipped and fell.
He could not escape due to the force of the rushing water, which carried him from the small gutter and eventually to the Korle Lagoon.
His body was found in the lagoon two days later, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
The family has been left devastated.
The torrential rains have caused significant devastation, with several fatalities and extensive property damage reported.
The recent downpour on Monday, May 13, 2024, and subsequent days resulted in severe flooding that disrupted daily activities, created traffic gridlock and inundated homes and businesses.
The rains have claimed multiple lives, including the 12-year-old boy, highlighting the urgent need for effective flood management.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has warned of further inclement weather, stating that its monitoring stations have detected two additional rainstorms approaching the country.
