Black Stars jersey is heavy to wear – Andre Ayew
Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has expressed the weightiness of wearing the senior national team jersey.
In an interview with Canal+, the 33-year-old shared his thoughts as the team gears up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
Following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) performance in Ivory Coast where the Black Stars exited at the group phase for the second consecutive time, Ayew remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.
Despite recent setbacks, Ayew believes in the resilience of the Black Stars, stating, “The players start by getting used to it, by understanding what it means to wear this jersey, which means a lot to millions of people.”
He emphasized the significance of the jersey, describing it as “very heavy to wear,” requiring “broad shoulders.” However, he expressed confidence that the team will bounce back, saying, “I know we will bounce back. We work. We are going through a bad time. But we will get through this, I am sure.”
Looking ahead, Andre Ayew aims to participate in his 10th AFCON next year. Additionally, the Le Havre attacker has been nominated for the French Ligue 1’s Goal of the Season Award.
