Destabilization Plot: ACP Agordzo denied bail again
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, who is currently facing trail for his alleged involvement in an alleged destabilization plot has been denied bail by a Accra High Court.
The court, in a ruling Monday [November, 18, 2019] said the application was premature due to the fact that investigations were still ongoing.
The judge, George Buadi also said the position of the applicant as a senior police officer is likely to influence ongoing investigations.
“His status and experience might possibly be used to hamper and interfere with investigations. I shall refuse the application for now,” Justice Buadi ruled.
The ruling follows an application by lawyers of ACP Agordzo who argued that their client according to the law could be granted bail pending trial.
In their arguments, they noted their client was entitled to bail and will make himself available for investigations or trial if needed.
According to counsel, ACP Agordzo never intended to organise or participate in any coup plot.
This, however, the state’s lawyers objected to, reiterating the senior officer’s status could influence ongoing investigations if granted bail.
