One person is in critical condition after a tree fell on an SUV vehicle and a motorcycle at Cantonment, near the Italian Embassy in Ghana.
The incident happened after torrential rainfall in several parts of Accra on Monday, May 6.
The heavy wind caused the tree to uproot, slamming into the front of the Toyota SUV with registration number GE- 685-14 and directly on the motor rider.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GHNFS) swiftly arrived at the scene.
Using chainsaws, they worked to lift the tree and removed the vehicles that were trapped beneath.
They also cleared the remaining debris from the road to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, the rain damaged and brought down two billboards on the Korle Bu road.
One of the billboards mounted at the Korle Bu Traffic Light intersection fell on the part of the road from the Bukom Boxing Arena towards the Lavender Hill at Korle Bu.
Another billboard also fell on the same stretch.
At the time of filing this report, police officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department were at the scene clearing the road to ensure the easy movement of vehicles.
Online videos show that the rainfall has also flooded the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area and the Mallam—Kaneshie Highway.
