One person is feared dead while three others are in critical condition after a cargo truck loaded with biscuits collided with a commercial vehicle on Wednesday (April 24, 2024) afternoon.
The tragic incident occurred at the Mango line near Jayee University, located at McCarthy junction, on the Accra-Kasoa highway.
According to the Greater Accra Administrator of the Ghana National Ambulance Service, Daniel Asare, they had a distress call about the incident and rushed to the scene.
He indicated that all the victims were rushed to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) for treatment.
Mr Asare added that one of the victims, who was severely injured, is in critical condition.
The accident involving a Toyota minibus with registration number GT 5990-21 occurred on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, while the vehicle was travelling from Accra to Somanya.
According to reports, the driver began to doze off behind the wheel.
Some concerned passengers noticed the driver’s condition and requested that he park the vehicle to get some rest.
Despite the driver’s efforts to stay awake, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle upon reaching Asseseso, resulting in an accident.
Two out of the 14 passengers died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries while on admission at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital.
The other passengers were also rushed to the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital.
Meanwhile, five of the victims were transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for advanced care due to severe head injuries, a spine injury and broken legs.
The remaining five patients reportedly responded well to treatment.
