The Ministry for the Interior has declared Wednesday, May 1, 2024, a statutory public holiday.
“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 1st May 2024, which marks May Day (Workers Day), is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
May Day is earmarked to celebrate all workers across the country.
It is celebrated with a parade by trade unions and labour associations.
The parades are normally addressed by the Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and by regional secretaries in the regions.
Also referred to as Labour Day in some countries, it is a celebration of labourers and the working classes and their contributions to national development.
