It further states that “Any person who knowingly deals in a pre-registered subscriber or user identity module commits an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not more than three thousand penalty units or a term of imprisonment of not more than five years or to both”.

To avoid legal repercussions, entities and individuals engaging in the sale and usage of pre-registered SIMs are requested to desist from the illegal act immediately and ensure that they follow the outlined processes, for the acquisition and registration of SIMs.

The authority further advised the public to desist from registering SIMs for other individuals, “as the owner of the Ghana Card used for the registration of that SIM(s) will be held liable should those numbers be implicated in any criminal activity” the statement, added.
