Amewu makes third attempt for Hohoe Parliamentary seat on NPP ticket
Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu has been affirmed as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Hohoe Constituency.
The Minister who is making his third attempt to represent the people of Hohoe in Parliament has been heralded for bringing much-wanted development to the area.
The acclamation was done at a gathering of party delegates and supporters at an extraordinary constituency conference at the Old Volta Cinema in Hohoe.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Makafui Woanyah, called on party members, faithful, delegates and sympathizers to campaign to support Mr Amewu in his bid.
Describing Mr. Amewu as a valuable asset whose work in government stands tall, Mr Woanyah said Mr Amewu should be in Parliament to drive more development to the Hohoe constituency.
“Mr Amewu is not new to any of you here. We are all witnesses to the good works he is doing in Hohoe and its environs. So it will only be prudent for us to send him to Parliament to continue these good works,” Mr. Woanyah staid.
A Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, who was full of praise for Mr Amewu for his excellent performance whenever he is invited to answer questions in Parliament said Mr Amewu has all that it takes to be in Parliament and perform better than the incumbent MP for Hohoe.
The Hohoe Constituency NDC executives in their message of solidarity encouraged their counterparts in the NPP to respect the peace being enjoyed in the constituency and conduct their campaign in a manner that entrenched the peaceful coexistence of the people of Hohoe and its environs.
Mr Amewu who contested for Parliament in 2004 and 2008 has been described by some constituents as a good candidate in a wrong party.
Mr Amewu who secured 20.10% and 22.37% of votes cast in his first two attempts encouraged the people of Hohoe to look upon the development he is bringing to the community and give him the mandate to work for more.
Mr Amewu is celebrated for bringing streetlights to all nooks and crannies of the Hohoe Munitions and also donating vehicles to some state institutions, paying school fees for many constituents among others.
Hohoe is a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
