The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has opened the registration portal for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates as well as candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of WAEC dated March 26, 2024, indicated that the portal was opened for the registration of candidates on Monday, 11th March 2024, and will be closed on Friday, 19th April 2024.
The statement added that BECE for public and private school candidates in 2024, will be administered from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12, 2024.
“The portal was opened for the registration of candidates on Monday, 11th March 2024, and will be closed on Friday, 19th April 2024. The BECE for school and private candidates 2024, will be administered from Monday 8th to Friday, 12th July 2024.
“All relevant stakeholders are urged to adhere to this timeline as the Council may not be able to accommodate late entries due to test security reasons. The Council held briefing sessions for all stakeholders who will be involved in the registration of candidates from Tuesday 20th to Friday 23rd February 2024.”
“While school candidates will be examined based on the common core curriculum, the private candidates will be examined on the old syllabus. All private candidates are therefore to note and be careful when selecting their subjects. The fee payable per candidate for the BECE is GH₵214.1,” the statement added.
Concerning the WASSCE, it will be conducted from Monday, August 5 to September 27, 2024.
“The Council wishes to stress that despite the difference in the period for the conduct of the examination, the standard of the examination remains unchanged. Question papers are compiled by officers across the member countries.
“At the end of the examination, International Preliminary Coordination Meetings are held to finalize draft marking schemes. Further, right after the marking exercise, the International Awards Committee meets to determine the grade boundaries for all subjects. These processes ensure that the examination written by Ghana only still maintains its International status.
“The final timetable for the examination will be made available to all schools and will be on the WAEC website as well. Candidates are advised to contact their schools or visit the WAEC website for an accurate timetable. Candidates should refrain from downloading timetables from unverifiable websites,” excerpts of the statement highlighted.
The approved WAEC registration fee for entry in seven to nine subjects is GH₵465.00.
