Fire officers allegedly assault security men at Techiman Holy Family Hospital
Some personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have allegedly attacked security guards at the Holy Family Hospital at Techiman in the Bono East Region.
The incident occurred after a misunderstanding between the guards and five fire officers who went to the hospital to visit a female colleague who was on admission.
The misunderstanding ensued after the security guards denied the officers entry into the ward since it was hours past the hospital’s visiting time.
According to W.O. 1 Kwakuru Kingsley David, the Head of Security at the Holy Family Hospital, the officers, dissatisfied with being denied entry, physically assaulted and injured the security guards.
They also called for reinforcement, and the arrival of another batch of fire officers led to further chaos.
W.O. 1 Kwakuru said the fire officers forcefully removed their female colleague from the hospital premises.
He added that the hospital management had filed a complaint with the police.
The hospital is seeking investigations and appropriate sanctions against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, A.D.O. 1 Gyan Victor, attributed the altercation to the alleged unprofessional conduct of the hospital security guards towards a fire officer.
He stated that the extra fire service personnel were not there to incite violence but to ensure the safety of their colleague, whose security was compromised at the hospital.
