The Year of Return fever seems to have gripped American rapper Wale as he has indicated that he wants to come to Ghana.

The rapper, who is of Nigerian descent, indicated in a tweet on Tuesday that he will love to visit the gateway to Africa.

Born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, the rapper wrote, “Yo @WalesAgent I wanna go to Ghana … make it happen.”

@WalesAgent, possibly Wale’s agent, said “whats up Ghana you guys have been real f**kin loud today” prompting the ‘Ambition’ rapper to respond “So get on the phone jor!!!!”

It is however not clear when the rapper, who is signed to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music label, will be coming to Ghana should he go ahead with his plan.

This year marks exactly 400 years since the first black slaves landed in Jamestown Virginia in the U.S.

The initiative urges Africans in the diaspora to come back home and so far, it has seen an impressive array of celebrities, including Steve Harvey, make their way to Ghana to explore, learn and appreciate their roots.

Recently, rapper Sarkodie, in his acceptance speech at the BET Hip Hop Awards after winning the Best International Flow, urged African-Americans to come home as Ghana marks the Year of Return this year.

“This year is the Year of Return and I will urge each one of you here to take a trip back home….it’s going down in Ghana so if you are coming to Africa choose Ghana,” he said.

Sarkodie was subsequently appointed an ambassador for the ‘Year of Return’.
