Fake policeman busted after dragging suspect to station

The Nima District Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for pretending to be a policeman.

The suspect, Hassan Avorgah, was arrested on March 17, 2024, at the Holy Gardens Police Station.

He had arrested a suspect and sent the person to the station for detention.

The fake policeman was, however, arrested when he failed to provide accurate details of himself as a police officer.

He was dressed in a police camouflage uniform and had a pair of handcuffs, a taser, a pouch, and two dummy GoTa phones in his possession.

Upon further search at his residence at Berlin Bridge in Nima, police retrieved security belts, a pair of black police uniforms, a black round hat, a blue-black cardigan, and a picture frame.

Meanwhile, he is being processed for court on charges of deceiving a public officer, impersonation, and the possession of police accoutrements without lawful authority for posing as a policeman.

In a similar case, a young man, Isaac Kofi Boakye, was arrested for posing as a police officer in Konongo, in the Ashanti Region.

The fake policeman was busted on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, following an investigation by a police team that revealed that Kofi Boakye was not a member of the Ghana Police Service.

However, he had been holding himself for the last six months as a police chief inspector stationed at the Form Police Unit Headquarters in Accra.

In December 2022, a 28-year-old man was also arrested for pretending to be a police officer.

Isaac Osei was arrested by the Awutu Bereku Police Command, at a checkpoint on the Winneba road.

He was on his way to Winneba when he was spotted in a black police uniform.

The 28-year-old suspect, who was reportedly driving a vehicle with registration number GE 3012-12, was signalled to stop but failed over claims he was an officer.

He, however, succumbed to pressure and, upon interrogation, maintained he was a policeman.

The suspect, who identified himself as Isaac Osei, wore a uniform with the name tag ‘Laryea’.

However, he could not provide his service number upon further interrogations.

He later confessed that he was not an officer, but it was his friend’s uniform.
