The former Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Alexander Abban, has appealed to the police to commence investigations into the death of the late Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah.
Allegations of poisoning have been rife since the late legislator fell ill and subsequently died on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Though the allegations of poisoning have been widespread, there has been no confirmation by any expert or family of the late MP.
Commenting on the issue, Mr Abban emphasised the gravity of the situation.
“If indeed his life was cut short by a sinister act of somebody poisoning him, then God save this country. Where are we heading towards? In our quest for power are we going to serve the people or we are going to lord it over them or it’s an avenue to make money, amass wealth and through that process also acquire power,” he said on CitiNews.
He urged the police to look into the matter to ensure there’s no foul play.
Meanwhile, Apostle Mrs Lilian Kumah, the wife of the late John Ampontuah Kumah, is seeking answers from media personality Captain Smart regarding allegations that her husband was poisoned.
In an official complaint on March 8, 2024, the widow asked the Ghana Police Service to ensure that the presenter provided clear evidence of his claims about the circumstances leading to her husband’s death.
During a live TV programme, Captain Smart claimed that the Deputy Finance Minister, who died on Thursday, March 7, 2024, had been poisoned.
He also revealed that another target was Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement, the widow said the allegations were intensifying their grief, suggesting it is “misinforming and unfortunate”.
