Choose happiness over societal pressure – Rita Dominic tells women
Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has admonished women never to be intimidated by external pressures concerning their lives.
Speaking at the second edition of Nana Aba Anamoah’s Women of Valour programme on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Accra, the award-winning actress said women should be courageous, pursue their dreams regardless of challenges, and not be deterred by negative societal views.
“Do things that make you happy. Choose your happiness over societal pressure,” she admonished.
Former First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt, once said: “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it’s in hot water”.
Referring to the famous quote, the Nigerian screen goddess reaffirmed women’s indomitable spirit, making them capable of withstanding the toughest challenges.
Appreciating the Women of Valour initiative, which seeks to celebrate courage and resilience and motivate women and girls, Rita Dominic emphasized the need to appreciate the role of women in every sphere.
The award-winning actress also advised women to choose friends wisely because their closest circle could be their downfall.
“Choose those who choose you. Make good use of every moment and follow your dreams,” she added.
At the event, the founder of the Women of Valour, award-winning broadcast journalist Nana Aba Anamoah, urged women to support each other and be determined to break societal barriers.
The project aims to bring together courageous women to share success stories and advice and nurture others to rise to the top.
Other prominent speakers at the event were award-winning movie director Shirley Frimpong-Manso and South Africa’s famous TV presenter Bonang Matheba.
The programme was graced by many high-profile guests, including the Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger; the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office(EOCO), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah; and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of I-ZAR Rashida Saani Nasamu.
