Hearts of Oak name Kofi Agbesimah as new captain

Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak have appointed defender Kofi Agbesimah as the club’s new captain.

The former Bechem United centre-back will now lead the Phobians under new Ivorian coach Aboubakar Ouattara as they seek to make the club great again.

Goalkeeper Richard Attah and defender Kelvin Osei Assibey will serve as the first and second deputy skippers respectively.

Agbesimah replaces outgone captain, Gladson Awako, who departed the club to join city rivals Accra Great Olympics during the second transfer window.

The experienced defender joined the Phobians from fellow Ghana Premier League outfit Bechem United before the start of the 2023/24 season.

He has established himself as a key member of the Phobian team since his arrival. The 26-year-old has made 18 appearances for the club in the ongoing campaign.

Agbesimah played a leadership role during his spell with Bechem United. However, it is not surprising he has been named as the new captain of Hearts of Oak.

With support from Attah and Assibey, the Phobians will be hoping to make a meaningful impact in the ongoing campaign.

Attah is one of the longest-serving players of the Phobians. He joined the club after ending his spell with Elmina Sharks years back.

Osei Assibey has become an instant hit for the Phobians after joining the club from Eleven Wonders. He has been rock-solid at the back since his arrival and being named among the team captains will serve as a huge motivation for the fast-rising defender.

Hearts of Oak are currently seventh on the Ghana Premier League table.
