Football enthusiasts are set to hit the streets of the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi to demand an overhaul of Ghana football in a demonstration dubbed “SaveGhanaFootball” on February 23, 2024.

This follows a similar protest in Accra held on February 14 demonstrated against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports over the falling standards of football in the country.

Sports journalist Collins Atta Poku, one of the conveners of “SaveGhanaFootball” in Kumasi, in an interview with Citi Sports, indicated that the demonstration was supposed to happen simultaneously with the one in Accra but had to be moved to February 23.

“It’s been in the pipeline and it was actually supposed to happen simultaneously with the one that happened in Accra but it didn’t happen so it had to be moved to the 23 instead , so the plan is that it’s going to happen on the 23rd of February.

We have actually delivered a petition to the various stakeholders we feel are suitable for this ,but Kumasi is the football capital of the country ,so we intend to ramp up what we’ve done to expedite action on the engagement that are ongoing after the first demonstration to further highlight in a different geographical space what has already been done  in Accra.

So we actually planning to converge at the seat of football which is the Baba Yara Stadium at nine o’clock just as it happened in Accra , we will go through the Wesley round about , go through the internal coordinating council  which is going to be the final destination .  ”

The planned demonstration comes on the heels of Ghana’s first-round exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire that had the Black Stars fail to win a game in three outings.
