The Nsawam Municipal Police Command has arrested four suspects for stealing rail tracks.

The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Adamu, Abdul Kadril, Japharu Haruna, along with the driver of a Hyundai Mighty truck bearing registration number GS-3201-09, Stephen Tetteh Blebo, were apprehended around 8:20 pm while transporting quantities of stolen railway lines.

The patrol team, stationed at Oparekrom junction, acted upon credible information regarding the theft.

Upon interception, the suspects and the vehicle loaded with the stolen railway lines were brought to the station for further investigation.

The suspects who are currently in custody will be put before the court in the coming days.

The Oparekrom community has been hit with a series of rail track thefts, a situation that has put the municipal security council on high alert.

Some residents have accused the Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem South, Frank Aidoo of his involvement in the theft of railway tracks within the municipality.

However, the MCE averred that the allegations against him were unfounded and intended to besmirch hiM, particularly ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary primary in Akuapem South, which he is contesting.

“It was yesterday [Sunday] that I read in the news that I was involved in the thefts but those are pure fabrications being orchestrated by my political detractors and it is because of the Akwapem South parliamentary elections, which I intend contesting.

“I have reported the case to the Nsawam police station and we have investigators on the case, so now that we cannot find the metals there, the police should come down and find out what happened and get to the bottom of it,” Mr Aidoo said.
