Re-assigned ministers must be vetted – Dafeamekpor

The South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called for the vetting of ministers who have been reassigned to different ministries by President Akufo-Addo.

The legislator insists the constitution mandates parliamentary vetting and approval by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

“I am saying on the authority of the constitution that those persons’ appointments were revoked by the president, and their re-assignment must be subjected to parliamentary scrutiny.

“So, we are demanding that those five ministers he has reassigned must be subjected to parliamentary vetting, and that is the procedure, so they cannot escape parliamentary scrutiny. We will do our duty as the constitution demands, and we will demand that their names be submitted to parliament for them to be vetted,” he said.

The five ministers whose appointments are currently in contention include the Finance Minister-designate Mohammed Amin Adam, Interior Minister-designate Henry Quartey, Roads and Highways Minister-designate Francis Asenso-Boakye, Works and Housing Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and Ambrose Dery, the Minister of State at the Office of the President.

He, therefore, serves notice to contest the re-assignments of the said ministers of state at the Supreme Court.
