5 teenagers arrested for possessing narcotic drugs

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested five teenagers for possessing suspected narcotic drugs in Kumasi.

They are Okeke Samuel, 17 years; Chinedu Omah, 17 years; Jerry Adams, 17 years; Monday Peter, 19 years; and Abdul Rashid Zibo, 19 years old.

The teenagers were part of 18 suspects arrested during a swoop by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Kumasi police on February 13, 2024, at about 5:30 am.

The swoop was conducted at Alabar, Tafo, Kenyasi, Abirem and Buokrom quarry to flush out illicit drug peddlers and other criminals.

A police report said the police managed to retrieve some wraps of powdery substances and a quantity of dried leaves, all suspected to be narcotic drugs, and four motorbikes from the suspects.

“All suspects are in police custody, and exhibits are retained for evidential purposes. Suspects will be screened, and those found connected to exhibits will be prosecuted,” the police report said.

In a similar swoop, the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in collaboration with the Formed Police Unit (FPU) arrested a drinking spot operator for possessing narcotic drugs at  Kantamanto Market.

During the operation, the team arrested about 62 persons, including the suspect.

It said a search conducted at his drinking spot revealed a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
